WADI – Organic and Non Organic WADI (Orchard Development on uncultivable land and providing beneficiaries the basic knowledge and advantages of orchard farming, providing organic manures, organic fertilizers, organic certification, identifying viable & sustainable micro enterprises). AKHAND FOUNDATION is currently implementing 19 WADIs funded by NABARD in 5 states covering over 17,520 tribal families in more than 500 villages. The total area covered under AKHAND FOUNDATION WADI programme is around 8,265 hectare (20,478 acres) covering more than 19,441 families until now. (20,478 acres under diversified agriculture which includes horticulture, fisheries, agro forestry, olericulture, floriculture and apiculture till date).
Watershed (Creating structures to arrest soil erosion, creating water harvesting structures, water resource development, pasture land development, forming user’s associations, increasing ground water level, Capacity Building of farmers, Bank Linkages in post project period). AKHAND FOUNDATION implements various watershed projects with an objective to increase cropping intensity and productions in both rainfed and partial irrigated situations; Reduced threat of drought to both crops and livestock; Increased ground water recharge – enhancing water use potential; decline in downstream sedimentation – increase in flow rates and volume of the stream networks and improved moisture regimes; Change in livestock system dynamics – improved fodder quality and availability leading to change in herd size, quality and composition; Increased opportunities for short term, medium term and long term on and off-farm employment. Total area covered under watershed programme is 1,16,636 hectares covering about 17 lakhs beneficiaries till date.
Agricultural Research and Extension (Seed Multiplication Programme, Crop research through Participatory Varietal Selection (PVS) and Participatory Plant Breeding (PPB), and Client Oriented Breeding (COB), AKHAND FOUNDATION has produced officially released and recommended varieties that are highly adapted to the needs of farmers in marginal areas like Ashoka 200F (BVD 109), Ashoka 228 (BVD 110), etc. AKHAND FOUNDATION has covered around 34,047 hectares of land under agricultural research and extension till now.
Animal Husbandry (Health Camps for mulching animals); Animal husbandry is an important component of most of the projects that AKHAND FOUNDATION implements. It helps the beneficiary families to generate a stable income on sustainable basis. An important aspect of animal husbandry programme is that it engages the household women, and the income from mulching animals gives the women a certain amount of independence to carry out household expenses. Since its inception, AKHAND FOUNDATION has organised 1,311 veterinary health camps covering 2.28 lakh milch animals. It has also distributed more than 94,000 chick-lets and 5,800 goats to the tribal families of rainfed regions
- Skill Development
AKHAND FOUNDATION’s Skill Development Programme can be categorized into two categories one is Placement Linked and the other is Capacity Building Trainings. AKHAND FOUNDATION recognizes skill development as an important means by which the marginalized rural youths can have sustainable source of income. AKHAND FOUNDATION’s skill development programme is placement linked and for this, it has tied up with the corporate houses to provide employment to the trained candidates. Under capacity building, AKHAND FOUNDATION’s major intervention is providing training and handholding support to Panchayati Raj representatives for formulation of annual plans and perspective plans. Under placement linked Skill Development , AKHAND FOUNDATION has trained around 17,809 and provided placement to around 14,083 trainees in different skill sectors. - Institutional Development
CBO formation & strengthening and financial inclusion are the main areas of intervention under Institutional Development. AKHAND FOUNDATION has mobilized communities and formed SHGs consisting of members from marginal and deprived families. The groups are able to access the project funds based on the basis of their actual needs and plans and the beneficiaries are identified by the group members. Till now, AKHAND FOUNDATION has developed around 15,000 groups under various flagship programmes like watershed programme, WADI, agriculture, training etc. - Developmental Studies
AKHAND FOUNDATION undertakes various types of monitoring & evaluation, impact assessment, baseline surveys, and need based assessments etc. Some of the major studies that has been carried out so far by AKHAND FOUNDATION pertain to NREGA, tribal relocation from core tiger reserves, baseline surveys under Corporate Social Responsibility, impact assessment of National Afforestation Programme being implemented by Forest Development Agencies, impact assessment of total sanitation campaign, national level field verification of panchayats under the scheme of PEAIS of Ministry of Panchayati Raj, technical support institution to provide handholding support to PRIs in formulation of annual and perspective plans etc.Till now, AKHAND FOUNDATION has carried out around 235 developmental studies covering 75 districts and around 30,000 families. - Health and Sanitation

A major initiative has been taken by Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation to develop entrepreneurship based on farmers produce through member based farmers group called Farmers Producers Organization (FPO). This is a major step forward through Govt. of India for the Agriculture sector as a part of Startup India. AKHAND FOUNDATION has aligned itself with this initiative and organized more than 2000 producer groups of the farmers amongst the farming community and also formed two producers company under Indian Companies Act. A producer group of farmers is basically formed within the agricultural activity being carried out by AKHAND FOUNDATION in 5 states namely Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Bihar and W. Bengal. The agricultural activity is mainly concerned with agro-horticultural intervention sponsored by NABARD and crop variety propagation in rainfed area sponsored by ICAR. The activity of the farmer’s producer’s organization is to take their produce in post harvesting channel to get a fair price of their produce through a viable market linkage. Farmers who produce do have the flexibility for backward integration to the extent of seed production and forward integration linking the market for having fair price for their products. AKHAND FOUNDATION with its vast experience in agriculture sector develop capacity of the producers group of farmers right from seed production through various demonstrations on field, thereafter through introduction of advanced technology of farming and finally post harvesting mechanism so that group can earn a decent livelihood by making their product potentially marketable.
AKHAND FOUNDATION provides market linkage to farmers and unemployed youths for selling Fresh Fruits and Vegetables and also supports them with modern knowhow on farm activities. Major highlights under this intervention are in the area of Agri-business, Handicrafts, and e-governance. AKHAND FOUNDATION is providing market linkages to the farmers in order to enable them to get better prices. The main identified areas are Uttar Pradesh & Bihar. Work plan is divided into two steps (i) Cultivation on farmers land and providing backward and forward linkages to them for marketing (ii) Cultivation on own land in respective areas for the purpose of demonstration to the farmers.
